The 10 Tantrik Yamas
Yama #10 of the Classical Yogic Tradition
Śauca & Mitāhāra
Purity, Cleanliness, and Moderate Consumption
A Satsanga on Yogic Cleanliness, Ayurvedic Wisdom, and the Energetics of Right Relationship
Program Description:
What does it mean to be truly clean—not just in body, but in speech, thought, space, and intention? Can what we eat, digest, and absorb be a spiritual practice? And how do purity and moderation shape the subtle currents of our inner life?
This satsanga explores the 10th and final yama of the Tantrik tradition: śauca, or inner and outer purity, alongside its natural companion, mitāhāra—moderation in food, consumption, and desire. Far from rigid asceticism, these principles offer a living map of alignment between the senses, the mind, and the sacred rhythms of nature.
Drawing from Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras, classical Ayurveda, and the non-dual traditions of Tantra and Vedānta, we’ll explore how to cultivate śauca and mitāhāra as deep inner clarity and simple outer harmony. Together, we reflect on how simplicity, restraint, and care can purify the vessel of our being, preparing it to receive and radiate spiritual light.
Highlights of the Satsanga Include:
-
A cross-traditional exploration of śauca through the lens of Tantra, Yoga, and Ayurveda
-
An introduction to mitāhāra as yogic nourishment—not just food, but all forms of intake
-
Practical purification tools for body, mind, and space: breath, mantra, and attention
-
Insights into the relationship between food, prāṇa, and consciousness
-
Reflections on sacred eating, digestive fire (agni), and the sattvic mind
-
Integrative practices to personalize the teachings to your own journey
Rooted in scriptural clarity and contemporary relevance, this satsanga offers more than insight—it offers practice. It invites you to experience cleanliness not as compulsion, but as reverence. And it encourages you to embrace moderation not as denial, but as deep alignment with the soul’s true hunger.
Whether you are deep in your sādhana or just beginning to reflect on how your habits shape your spiritual path, this satsanga will support you in coming home to a quieter, clearer, more intentional way of being.
Each satsanga in this 10-part series is building upon the content of the last. You are highly encouraged to have a look at the previous sessions available in the program library.
