説明

Another painting from the Pangong, and Julcha (Jülcha) in the Ladakhi language, a dialect to the Tibetan, means the “home of local spirits”, inhabiting the geographical vicinity around village Merak, a village shrine. The Julcha at Merak is situated above the village on a round hill, one hour walk up with equipment. At the foot of this hill there are two large ordered piles (manis) made up by stones with sacred mantras carved onto them. The road passing by the lake has been one main route for caravans to and from Tibet. They say that in winter when the lake is frozen, the ice sounds like a giant drum with cracking echos in the valley. I felt safe at this Julcha, an out-post in the windy skies where the gods live, a “space station” for refuge.
